The firm was founded in 1936 and is headquartered in London. BPIM is the in-house asset manager for the UK BP Pension Fund. SAM is a subsidiary of Paris-based Sinopia Asset Management SA, which in turn is a subsidiary of HSBC Investments (France) SA, and ultimately of London-based HSBC Holdings Plc (LSE: HSBA; NYSE: HBC). Formerly known as Coolweb Ltd and as Sinopia International Ltd., SAM was established in 1998 and is the quantitative asset management business in London of the HSBC group; the Sinopia Group has offices in Paris, London and Hong Kong and is registered with the SEC, FSA, AMF and SFC.
