Nigel joined the city in 1984 as an assistant to the senior partner of Vivian Gray & Co. Having spent three years working in private client asset management he moved to the institutional sales department in the summer of 1987 marketing to Continental European accounts.
In 1988 he moved to a similar role at Laing & Cruickshank, becoming a director in 1992 and a member of the six man management committee in 1993.
Nigel left Laing & Cruickshank at the end of 1994 and joined Robert Fleming Securities with specific responsibility for marketing the company’s quantitative valuation and Strategy work.
It was in this role that he met Ed for the first time.
He became head of UK sales and sales trading in early 1999.
In the aftermath of the Flemings takeover by Chase in August 2000 he was recruited by the asset management division to a position of portfolio manager within the Global Portfolios Group of Chase Fleming Asset Management (later to become JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management).
There he was responsible for a variety of funds, ranging from segregated global equity portfolios through closed architecture funds of funds and the global equity proportion of a large retail fund.
Nigel left JP Morgan Fleming at the end of June 2002 to join Dye Asset Management.
