Ms. Katja Fels is a Head of Communications & Researcher at RWI - Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung e.V.
She joined the RWI in July 2014.
She works as a consultant for economic policy communication and researches behavioral economics in the “Sustainability and Governance” research group.
Her current research focuses on the effectiveness of interventions motivated by behavioral insights, also known as “nudges,” in areas like energy conservation, education, and taxation.
For this, she has been conducting large-scale randomized controlled trials with external cooperation partners.
At RWI - Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung e.V., she supports researchers in communicating the scientific results to a non-scientific audience.
Next to the university education, she is a formally trained journalist (Volontariat).
She worked for different media in Germany and abroad.
She also held the position of press officer at Germany’s largest scholarship foundation, the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes), where she started as a scientific officer in 2009.
In 2017, she was a research fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU.
She obtained a Master's degree in Journalism and Political Science at Dortmund University and Ruhr-University Bochum in 2009.
She moreover graduated from the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, in Economic Policy in 2008 (Graduate Diploma).
