The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit membership corporation created for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. It is the mission of the Institute to serve the sciences of physics and astronomy by serving its Member Societies, individual scientists, students and the general public. As a 'society of societies,' AIP supports ten Member Societies, who collectively represent a broad cross-section of more than 135,000 scientists, engineers, and educators in the global physical science community. With an extensive catalog of top-cited journals, AIP is one of the world's leading publishers in the physical sciences. AIP pursues innovation in electronic publishing of scholarly journals and offers full-solution publishing services for its Member Societies. AIP publishes 13 journals; two magazines, including its flagship publication Physics Today; and the AIP Conference Proceedings series. Through its Physics Resources Center, AIP provides a spectrum of services and programs that encompass education and outreach, science communication, government relations, career services, statistical research, industrial outreach, and the history of physics and other sciences.
