James M. Hall

Mr. James M.
Hall is a Founding Partner & Co-Chair of the Investment Committee at Magnitude Capital LLC.
He is on the Board of Directors at Isotron, Inc. Mr. Hall jointly oversees, with Mr. Appen, all investing activities at Magnitude Capital.
Along with Mr. Appen, he sets the strategy and direction of the firm.
As co-chair of the Investment Committee he has shaped all aspects of the investment process, including manager sourcing, evaluation, portfolio construction, and risk management.
Previously, Mr. Hall was managing director and global head of UBS’s alternative asset management (“AAM”) business.
Under his leadership, it grew from an idea to a several billion dollar multi-strategy hedge fund operation.
Beginning in 1995, Mr. Hall was responsible for all aspects of the business including investing, operations, risk control, marketing, and new business development.
He spent the majority of his time serving as chief investment officer of AAM’s $2 billion global macro hedge fund, identifying and exploiting opportunities in currency and interest rate markets.
Mr. Hall began his career in 1987 as a floor trader for O’Connor & Associates.
In 1991, he moved to Singapore to build an Asian foreign exchange derivatives trading business for O’Connor and Swiss Bank.
In 1992, he relocated to Switzerland to manage the firm’s European FX derivatives business, which was then the largest in the world.
Following Swiss Bank’s purchase of O’Connor, Mr. Hall ran Swiss Bank’s FX trading business in London and the firm’s global FX proprietary trading business.
Mr. Hall graduated magna cum laude with a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois.
