Mr. Gary Hooper is Venture Partner at Velocity Venture Capital LLC.
He has been involved in the biotechnology industry since its inception from 2005, joining Genentech in 1980.
While there, he served in several management positions, including Senior Director, Business Development.
After Genentech, he joined Cygnus, Inc., a drug delivery company, as Vice President of Business Development & Marketing where he established five strategic alliances and was involved in the company’s IPO.
Prior, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of three other biotechnology companies.
More recently, he was Vice President of Business Development at Genencor International, where he was responsible for corporate alliances, contract revenues, licensing, and university agreements.
He created a new strategic plan for industrial biotechnology, brought in over $22 million in contract revenue in 2003, and was responsible for the $35 million Silicon Biotechnology strategic alliance with Dow Corning.
Mr. Hooper is Chairman of Millennium Group Holdings, and a board member of Silicon Valley Networks where he developed the Next Silicon Valley Initiative: Convergence of Biotech, Nanotech, and Information Technology and served as Chairman of the Technology Convergence Consortium.
He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society’s executive Healthcare Committee and past member of the Board of Trustees.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Accera, Inc. (a biopharmaceutical company specializing in Alzheimer’s disease), member of the Board of Councilors of the College of Letters and Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California, and is on the Scientific Advisory Council of the Technology Commercialization Project Program at the University of Utah.
Mr. Hooper earned a BS in Marketing from California State University, San Jose, and an MBA in Management from the University of Southern California.
