First elected to the Medicine Hat City Council in 2001, Ms. Smith was the Vice-Chairman of the city’s Energy Committee and a member of the Audit, Corporate Services, and Tourism committees.
She also served as the Alderman responsible for civic functions and as Chairman of the Energy Committee of the Economic Development Alliance of South East Alberta.
In 1992, she was elected as a Trustee to the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education and served as the Board’s Vice-Chairman.
Ms. Smith is a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the Alberta Centennial medal, which she received in recognition of her community service.
She was also named News Maker of the Year by the Medicine Hat News in 2004.
She is a member of Civitas, the Fraser Institute, and REAL Women of Canada.
Ms. Smith Smith was born in Ottawa and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ottawa in 1969.
