First Manhattan Co. (FMC) is a wealth management firm headquartered in New York City. The firm was founded by David Gottesman in 1964. FMC provides investment advice to individuals, pension and profit-sharing plans, trusts, estates and charitable organizations, corporations and other types of business entities, institutional clients and the FMC ETF, a non-transparent exchange-traded fund that is a registered investment company.

In 1915 Charles Edward Merrill founded Merrill Lynch & Co. (NYSE: MER) with Edmund C. Lynch in Baltimore, Maryland. The modern Merrill Lynch was formed in 1940 through mergers with E.A. Pierce & Cassatt and, soon after, Fenner & Beane. Fund Asset Management, doing business as Mercury Asset Management, was acquired in December 1997. In 2000, MLAM and Mercury were combined under the name Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. MLAM manages the Merrill Lynch family of mutual funds, as and acts as sub-advisor to other mutual funds.

Dodge & Cox is an independent, SEC-registered investment advisor headquartered in San Francisco, California. The firm was founded by Van Duyn Dodge and E. Morris Cox in 1930. They provide investment management services to institutions, individuals, and mutual funds and other pooled investment vehicles on a fully discretionary basis, subject to the investment objectives and investment guidelines of each client.
