Christian Fredrikson's appointment to the board is a validation of F-Secure's expertise not only in security, but also as a provider of cloud services.

F-Secure's standing as a thought leader in cloud computing has been recognized by the European Commission in their appointment of CEO Christian Fredrikson to the steering board of their new European Cloud Partnership (ECP).

The naming of Fredrikson to the board is a testament to F-Secure's leading position as a provider of cloud services through more than 100 operator partners around the world. F-Secure securely stores billions of photos, videos, documents, and other files for millions of end customers globally. Located in five data centers on three continents, F-Secure's ever-increasing cloud content currently makes up several petabytes of data.

"It's an honor to be asked to serve on the board," Fredrikson said. "As a content cloud provider and an expert in security, F-Secure's expertise is the safe cloud. We have a job to do in helping to shape the European cloud market. Companies who play the cloud challenge right can create sustainable business value."

Formed with the goal of establishing a digital single market for cloud computing in Europe, the ECP brings industry and the public sector together to harness the public sector's buying power, helping shape the growing cloud market. Chaired by Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the steering board is made up of tech industry CEOs and government representatives responsible for IT procurement.

The board will deliver advice to European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes on strategies to turn cloud computing into a driver for economic growth and cost-efficient public services. It will tackle issues such as certification schemes and cloud computing standards, and identify pilot cloud projects to set in motion such as eID, smart cities, eHealth, and eEducation.

The board's top-level input is needed so all Europe can quickly see the full benefits of cloud computing, according to Kroes.* President Ilves and the board will give action-oriented advice to get the European Cloud partnership moving.
