Fleet management expert Transics is proud to announce that the Dutch Coöperatieve CombiPakt UA, a cooperative association, has recently equipped its brand-new electric trucks with Transics' TX-MAX GO on-board computers - a first in the sector. The installation did not require any modification of the on-board computers nor the back office software. Transics did develop one extra feature though. Dispatchers get an alarm if the battery charging process is interrupted. The close monitoring of the e-truck fleet will allow Coöperatieve CombiPakt to transport packages in and around Nijmegen in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

The Coöperatieve CombiPakt UA - the name of which refers to the combination of packages - was founded by the Dutch business association TPN-WEST in 2010. The concept: to pool all the packages sent by the companies seated at the Nijmegen business centre and transport these in an eco-friendly way, thus reducing CO2 emissions and traffic congestion. As a participant in the pilot project "Proeftuinen hybride en elektrisch rijden" of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, which sponsors field trials on e-transport, the Coöperatieve CombiPakt purchased three electric Smith Newton vehicles in 2013, to ship packages across the city centre of Nijmegen. To do this with the utmost efficiency, CombiPakt examined a series of fleet management solutions.

Confidence in the market leader

Harold van den Broek, CEO of CombiPakt, has already had a positive experience with the fleet management tools of CarrierWeb, the company that Transics took over in 2011. Moreover, the association closely collaborates with Cornelissen Transport, a Transics customer. These experiences, Transics' market leadership, the countless positive references and the solution's rich functionality convinced the Coöperatieve CombiPakt to select the TX-MAX GO on-board computer. Other features that impacted CombiPakt's choice for Transics included the connection with the digital tachograph, which allows an on-the-go read-out of the driver card and the mass memory, the temperature sensors and the door sensors. On top of the existing functionality, Transics did develop one new feature specific to e-vehicles: the possibility to monitor the recharging process. As soon as a problem occurs with the recharging process, the dispatcher receives an alarm via the TX-CONNECT back office software or via text messaging. (S)he can then immediately intervene, so that the next driver can start his transport trip with a fully charged battery.

Maximal efficiency

"Our trucks are equipped with a lithium ion battery pack, which is normally sufficient to keep the trucks on the road all day long. The batteries are then recharged every night. Nevertheless, we wish to monitor the recharging status at all times. The feature that Transics has developed, is the perfect tool for that," says Van den Broek. Van den Broek and his team believe that the Transics system will help raise the efficiency of the drivers, the dispatchers as well as the payroll department: "Coöperatieve CombiPakt was founded with the goal to reduce traffic congestion and cut CO2 emissions. And that approach really works, as appears from the results. Thanks to our e-vehicles, equipped with TX-MAX GO, we will be able to lift sustainability to a whole new level. Moreover, higher efficiency also implies cost savings and enhanced services, which makes our initiative even more attractive."

Transics' commitment

"Our fleet management solutions truly testify to our commitment to make transport more eco-friendly and sustainable. We are therefore very proud to contribute to this initiative and hope it will soon be copied, both in the Netherlands and far beyond our borders," concludes Arie van der Jagt, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Transics.

Coöperatieve CombiPakt was established by the TPN-WEST business association, with the purpose to reduce CO2 emissions and traffic congestion. The name CombiPakt refers to the concept of association, i.e. to pool packages from different shippers. Coöperatieve CombiPakt delivers packages in an eco-friendly way: by bike, electric scooters or electric trucks.
