The Tree plantation program is launched under its new Greenolution campaign
As part of its endeavour to power a greener world, Tata Power , India's largest integrated private power player has launched a Tree plantation initiative under its Greenolution program. A total of 9, 81,250 saplings were planted in its hydro lake catchment areas in Raigad district.
The main objectives of this Afforestation program are:
Reduce soil erosion and siltation in dams.
Conservation of endangered species.
Increase water table of the soil
Reduce wind velocity and evaporation losses.
Employment generation
Speaking on this initiative Mr Mahesh Paranjpe, Head-Hydro Power Station said "Hydro power stations had an ambitious target of planting 9.5 lakhs of saplings in its 6 lake catchment area under our Greenolution program. We are happy that we have been able to achieve it. We want to thank our communities, partners and employees for supporting this initiative."
Over 3000 man days were engaged to carry out this plantation. Various grampanchyats and other voluntary organization also participated in the tree plantation drive. Tata Power employees along with families also volunteered and actively participated in the tree plantation drive.
Ten important indigenous plant species were selected for plantation. Some of them selected were endangered species and were planted from conservation point of view. Other species selected have medicinal, and bio-fuel value.
The name 'Greenolution' is a fusion of two concepts - 'Green' and 'Evolution' which signifies the processes and initiatives that Tata Power has undertaken or will undertake towards ensuring a greener and sustainable planet. The key programs being pursued under Greenolution are:
Implementation of 100% recycled paper usage in office
Tree plantation at all our plants and site locations
Saving water at our plants, office and site locations
Saving fuel through carpooling and other initiatives
Waste Management at our offices
Energy conservation and efficiency initiatives at all our locations and outside
Reducing air travel and using webcast/video conferencing facilities
Participation in 'Clean your city' drives and campaign
