HOUSTON, June 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectra Energy Corp (NYSE: SE) has been recognized as one of the top workplaces in the United States, according to Workplace Dynamics, an independent research firm specializing in organizational health that conducts more than 5,000 company surveys each year, surveying a total of 1.7 million workers.

For its first annual Top National Workplaces list, Workplace Dynamics surveyed more than 5,000 U.S. companies and 319 made the list. To be included, companies had to meet the following criteria:

-- Be named a Top Workplace in one of Workplace Dynamics' 30 regional
        survey programs
    -- Have at least 1,000 U.S. employees
-- Surveys conducted of at least 350 employees

"After being named a top Houston workplace for two consecutive years, we are honored to now be recognized at a national level, especially since this recognition is the result of direct feedback from our employees," said Dorothy Ables, chief administrative officer, Spectra Energy.

Another key conclusion drawn from analysis of the survey results is that top workplaces are good for investors as well as employees. Workplace Dynamics created a Top Workplaces Virtual Fund by examining scores for organizational health and found that since October 2008, the index has outperformed the S&P 500 by an average of 15.5 percent per year. Workplace Dynamics developed the measure, which is based solely on a consistently applied assessment of a company's organizational health, as a way to demonstrate how creating a healthy work environment should be a top priority for any company.
