JERUSALEM, May 28 (Reuters) - Israel's largest supermarket chain Shufersal reported on Tuesday higher first-quarter profit on stronger revenue, with earnings of 89 million shekels ($24 million) up 35% from 66 million a year earlier.

Revenue rose 1.8% to 3.78 billion shekels in the January to March period, while same-store sales also grew 2.2%. Quarterly sales at its Be drugstore chain rose 10.8% to 277 million shekels.
