Improving energy efficiency simply pays off - among other benefits, it reduces operating costs and provides funds for new investments. This is proven by an energy efficiency project we have carried out for one of the largest fuel brands. We have once again shown that using the right business model can generate large savings in energy consumption.

PLN 1.6 million is the amount of savings our experts managed to generate for one of the fuel industry customers thanks to an energy efficiency solution.  The pilot and analysis of many variables allowed us to implement all the ideas, so that our customer's savings exceeded the original assumptions.

The customer's calculations for 2021 show that our activity in the preceding period resulted in a 6% decrease in energy consumption. The summary of the next year of cooperation will be made in Q2 2022. We expect even better results and a decrease in media consumption, reaching over 10%.

- 2021 was a year of large increases in energy and gas prices. When contracting energy for 2022, customers pay even twice as much as in the corresponding period of the previous year. Is this the end of the increase? It is difficult to say, therefore the issue of energy consumption and savings optimisation - one of Sescom's fields of expertise - is quite relevant to many businesses - says Paweł Trojanowski, Expert for Energy and Business Development Manager at Sescom S.A.

Effective pilot

How did we achieve this result? We used our original SES Control telemetry system.

- Within the six-month pilot, using our original SES Control telemetry system, we performed a number of activities and measurements that allowed us to identify 5 areas with a potential to reduce costs and the volume of electricity consumption - reports Bartłomiej Gawin, R&D Director supporting the implementation of energy services at Sescom.

Our telemetry systems monitored the energy consumption of both the facilities and of the individual sections, such as lighting, electric heating, air conditioning, or entities renting space from our customer (restaurants, and other commercial establishments).

- We developed and implemented a corporate savings policy for the company and we are constantly tracking the lifecycle of buildings, devices and systems, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint. We introduced solutions that change the habits, work style and activities of the staff, without losing the quality of work and use. Moreover, we provided recommendations on the condition and proper regulation of devices, as well as the condition of buildings and window and door woodwork. We also took care of adjusting the ordered power levels to the actual energy needs of the facilities and energy schedules to the actual energy profiles. All these actions led to the reduction of the entire network's consumption by 2,762 MWh - adds Piotr Mindykowski, Energy Manager at Sescom.

Reduction of the carbon footprint as a result of savings

Emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, contribute to global warming, i.e. the rise in the average temperature of the atmosphere near the surfaces of land and ocean. Every person, organisation, event, or even single product produces a certain amount of greenhouse gases, the total of which is called the carbon footprint, and it has become one of the key tools in modern environmental management. The company's carbon footprint consists of the emissions caused by all the activities and allows to determine their impact on environment. The reduction of it improves the climate and is now beginning to constitute a competitive advantage. Our company's solutions help customers achieve the desired effects as part of their green strategies.

- Our Energy Manager and a team of analysts monitor the current energy consumption and the effectiveness of the savings policy. We create energy profiles for facilities, choose schedules and ordered powers, and perform multi-dimensional data analyses and predictions. Our methodology for managing energy efficiency is not limited to comparing invoices, as we take into account many variables, including weather conditions, geographical location of facilities, areas, age of facilities and construction technology - assures Bartłomiej Gawin.
