RSI Announces Solicitation of Interest in an R&D Project on Resistivity Anisotropy Characterization.

RSI is proposing an industry funded research project to examine regional trends and underlying controls of resistivity and resistivity anisotropy. Phase one of the study will be focused in the Barents Sea. The project will build on RSI's existing atlas of rock physics and seismic responses, and will use well log, CSEM data and rock physics modeling to develop a better understanding of regional resistivity and anisotropy trends, examine the underlying causes of these trends and to develop methods to predict anisotropy from common well log measurements, extending the proven success of the EM method to a wider regional application. Further phases will extend this work into additional hydrocarbon basins including Gulf of Mexico, West Africa and the Malay Basin.
Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) has agreed to join the project and will contribute CSEM and anisotropic inversion data from their comprehensive Barents Sea data library.
Richard Cooper, RSI's CEO commented: "A number of leading operators have asked RSI to use our regional experience to integrate our existing rock physics atlas from the Barents Sea with EMGS's CSEM data to produce regional resistivity trends and rock physics models that will enhance understanding of reservoir rocks and hydrocarbon charge, leading to more efficient exploration in the Barents Sea"
Stated Dr. Lucy MacGregor, RSI's Chief Technology Officer: "Controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) survey data provides valuable information on the resistivity of the sub-surface, and increasing volumes of these data are now available. Additional value of these data can be realized by interpretation within a regional resistivity context, and calibration, where possible, to well log data. To do this requires analysis of regional resistivity trends, and investigation of their underlying cause."
