Rite Aid Corp. announced that it will shutter a 350-job distribution center in Charlotte and replace it with a consolidated $90 million facility in Spartanburg, S.C., that's scheduled to go on line in March 2016. The exact date for the closure isn't known.

The Charlotte facility and two other distribution centers - one each in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Poca, W.Va. - are affected by the decision. The company now operates 11 distribution centers in the United States.

The Charlotte facility is at 1776 Statesville Road in north Charlotte. The consolidation comes after Rite Aid conducted a comprehensive review of its supply network. That review found that the larger center - it will measure 900,000 square foot - would improve Rite Aid's operating efficiency, the company states in a news release about the facility planned in Spartanburg.

The new center will have 600 employees and supply 1,000 Rite Aid stores in the Southeast.
