Prague - January 26, 2017-

Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open-source solutions, today announced the opening of an open source laboratory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague (FEL CVUT). Red Hat plans to offer engineering students an opportunity to put their technical skills into practice by working on open source projects in collaboration with Red Hat's engineering teams. Beginning today, students can enjoy an active role in advancing open source innovation through community-based projects and research.

We have long-standing collaboration with several local universities as Red Hat aims to help advance technology in education within the Czech Republic. Our intent is to foster an environment that can help produce skilled engineering graduates, already active in open source communities and development, as they enter the workforce.

Red Hat's lab at FEL CVUT follows the launch of two labs in Brno, Czech Republic, and underlines Red Hat's commitment to advancing open source education and participation. Via the labs, students can collaborate in open source projects that can not only further their studies, but also obtain experience of working within live production environments. The new lab at FEL CVUT is designed to give students a chance to work with university researchers on research projects, such as industrial case studies that provide real-world data for experiments. Additionally, it aims to support junior researchers by providing them with connections to industry experts.
Together with the lab opening, Red Hat also announced funding support for the Software Engineering Chair at the FEL.

Red Hat actively cooperates with approximately 10 universities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Through internships, diploma theses, and open source project collaboration, its Brno office has ongoing contact with more than 200 students.
