QWIP Systems Inc., through its United States subsidiary, QWIP Technologies, Inc. (QWIPTECH), holds a worldwide license from the California Institute of Technology to produce and sell infrared detectors and sensors based on their Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP TECHNOLOGY). This technology developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California has many applications in defense, as well as in the field of security and surveillance. During the year ended December 31, 2005, QWIPTECH continued its work on two contracts through Defense Advanced Research and Projects Agency, a department of the United States Department of Defense. Under the two contracts, QWIPTECH has been developing an infrared multi-colored, multi-spectral chip and an aerial land mine detection system. On December 1, 2006, Cantronic Systems Inc. (Old Cantronic) and QWIP Systems Inc. amalgamated to form Cantronic Systems Inc. (Cantronic or Amalco).
