CES BOOTH #1001 – Today at CES, Pioneer Corporation announced the immediate availability of its platform for the aggregation of internet services (PAIS), a voice-controlled device portal that dramatically simplifies device connectivity to the myriad connected services for auto, tablet, smartphone, and television manufacturers. The PAIS API provides a consistent way for consumers to access voice UI, maps and routing, local search, social networking, music and radio, video and TV, contacts, calendar, and weather from multiple content providers.

For consumers, the PAIS API allows their devices to access and share information more seamlessly, with the convenience of voice control, making them more useful as a part of everyday life, whether at home or on the road; at work or play. Consumers gain the simplicity of single account/login across all of their PAIS-enabled devices, more useful mashups of the information that is most important to them, and consistent access to key content and services regardless of device.

?As consumers use a wider array of connected services, the need for easy and intuitive access to them regardless of which vendor's device they are using becomes more important for them, yet more difficult for device makers to achieve," said Yoshio Aoyagi, General Manager, New Business Development Division, Pioneer. "Making the connected life easier for consumers is the driving force behind PAIS.?

The PAIS API simplifies connectivity for device manufacturers, allowing them to easily create mashups from multiple information sources, and giving them customization and control of the user experience without requiring the use of an app store. By accessing aggregated services in the cloud, device makers easily handle the changing service landscape without modifications to the device or disruption of service to the consumer. The PAIS API allows device manufacturers to focus on differentiation, preserving each device maker's unique brand identity and consumer experience.

?Slacker offers music lovers the opportunity to enjoy free music everywhere, whether they are listening on their computers, smartphones or through their home entertainment systems,? said Steve Cotter, SVP Business Development of Slacker Radio. ?We're thrilled that the PAIS API makes it quick and easy for us to offer our listeners access to Slacker Radio in their cars and on other connected devices."

In order to speed development of PAIS-enabled clients and adoption of the platform, Pioneer has made the Java reference client for the PAIS API available. The PAIS API is a set of RESTful cloud APIs organized by content service category. After obtaining a free license, device makers and app developers can access the API directly via HTTP calls and implement client applications using common languages and operating system platforms, including HTML5, iOS, Android, Java, Meego, Symbian, and WebOS. A consumer smartphone app is set for launch early 2011.

This initial release of PAIS features services that millions of consumers are already familiar with - natural language voice recognition from VoiceBox® Technologies Inc., up-to-date weather reports from AccuWeather.com®, restaurant recommendations and local search from Yelp, travel and event local search from Wcities, social networking from Facebook and Twitter, Internet radio from Slacker and Tuner2, productivity from Google Calendar, and more. Pioneer will be adding additional content and service providers in the coming months.
