FOR IMMEDIATE RELAESE
Palabora Copper confirms the allocation of 30 trucks to Vexovax (Pty Ltd) a jointly owned community company with the local tribal chiefs, to transport magnetite. On Tuesday, 1 July, Vexovax commenced their magnetite operations to Port Maputo from Palabora. This allocation of trucks to Vexovax signifies great progress in ensuring that Supplier Development Programme delivers on its mandate of creating opportunities for local businesses. Supplier Development Programme is breaking new grounds as it directly links local businesses to the available supplying / procurement opportunities within Palabora Copper, and the allocation of trucks to Vexovax is a great milestone for both company and the community at large, detailed Keith Mathole, General Manager: Corporate Affairs and Company Secretary.
However in order to sustain this business, Vexovax will require strengthened partnership with its strategic transport partner to ensure capacity building, business skills transfer as well business continuity. "Palabora Copper, together with the

provide Vexovax with all the crucial support needed while accruing their business
capacity" , Mathole stated.
The aim of the SDP programme, which the Vexovax is part of, is to develop 30 local suppliers into becoming potential suppliers to large companies such as Palabora Copper and others in the area. The programme was officially launched in October
2013, where local businesses required to register their companies in order to be considered for selection into the Supplier Development Programme. Palabora Copper has put together numerous programs to ensure continued support to the local suppliers as well as the business incubation centre located at Palabora Foundation to assist with the needed capacity.
"The SDP has the potential of creating a booming local manufacturing and services industry that will sustain the community beyond the mining sector period," maintains Mathole," adding that "the value of potential opportunities currently being pursued are worth over R50 million annually. This will significantly boost the community and also our BBBEE reporting and the compliance with the Department of Mineral Resources' Mining Charter," he said.
"Palabora Copper is committed to strengthening its relationship with the surrounding communities of Ba-Phalaborwa, and we are confident that the Supplier Development Programme will be a success and bring the more needed empowerment to our local communities. We will work together to support the Vexovax and other enterprises to ensure the success of this program, concludes Mathole.
