Ouster announced its multi-beam flash lidar sensor, the OS-1-128. The OS-1-128 is the highest resolution lidar on the market and comes with no change in size, mass, power consumption, or ruggedness compared to the OS-1-64, and continues to deliver on the promise of Moore's Law-esque product improvements enabled from Ouster's Multi-Beam Flash Lidar architecture. The OS-1-128 has a 45° vertical field of view, the widest available of any commercially sold high-performance lidar sensor. It is perfect for safety-critical robotics applications like autonomous vehicles, where minimizing lidar blind spots has been challenging to date. It incorporates 0.35° vertical angular resolution, uniformly spaced throughout the field of view, providing a consistent and dense point cloud. The OS-1-128 is priced at $18,000, six times cheaper than the competing 128-channel lidar sensor. This extends Ouster's commitment of providing the lowest pricing at every performance level. This new sensor also takes the perfectly correlated 3D and 2D range, intensity, and ambient camera-like images that Ouster has become known for to the next level, with double the vertical resolution. Additionally, these improvements in resolution benefit from the same quality and reliability achievements that Ouster continues to build on. Other high resolution lidar sensors on the market have been plagued with high field-failure rates that scale with resolution. Ouster's simple design sets a new bar in the lidar market and offers increased resolution without reliability compromises. Ouster expects the OS-1-128 to be available for volume purchases in the summer of 2019. Customers can reach out to Ouster to request to purchase initial units and inquire about volume pricing.
