J.C. Penney announced that it will open 600 Nike shops inside its department stores. The shops will feature Nike merchandise for basketball, training, running and other categories and additional signage. The shops will consist of 500 square feet. The change means more than half of the company's department stores will get the shop-within-a-shop, although it is unclear which locations will get the update. The department store's CEO indicated the company was willing to invest it its brick-and-mortar stores at the Weitzman Annual Forecast event in Texas last week. The focus on the evolution of its physical locations comes as the retail industry - and J.C. Penney - are seeing stores shutter across the country.
