NXP Semiconductors N.V. has announced its new LPC800 and LPC54000 series MCUs. These next-generation MCUs offer the ultimate in flexibility, with a robust pipeline of devices delivering advanced integration, paired with exceptional ease of use and power efficiency for tomorrow's Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The company unveiled the first of its new LPC MCU line, the LPC546xx MCU family, the most flexible and competitively priced option, that dramatically improves dynamic power consumption and provides advanced periphera its extensive 2017 roadmap of LPC MCUs builds upon the more than 1 billion ARM-powered microcontrollers already shipped to its consumer and industrial customers worldwide. This low-cost 32-bit MCU provides designers with a familiar form factor for easy migration from 8-bit design and a path to lower prices. It comes packed with a rich set of features, including: The flexibility of the company's switch matrix that allows any peripheral to be paired with any pin without restrictions; GPIO interrupt generation capability with Boolean pattern-matching capability; Flexible PWM/Timer (also known as state configurable timer) that allows users to program PWM/timer functions to meet the needs of the application; and direct memory access (DMA) with a comprehensive set of serial interfaces and analog integration. Later this year, NXP plans to expand this MCU series to provide developers with options for additional memory and greater levels of integration. The LPC54000 series takes the best of the ARM Cortex-M3-based LPC1768, refining its features to deliver the ultimate balance in performance and scalability. This Cortex-M4-based MCU series offers power efficiency and extreme design flexibility with its communication interfaces, accurate low power internal oscillator and a fast five Msps ADC. Representing the first of five new LPC product introductions planned for this year, the LPC546xx MCU family is tailored to meet the requirements of various consumer and industrial applications from the automotive aftermarket, to industrial control panels, connected smart home appliances, data concentrators and communication hubs. Additional features include: Wide dynamic range for performance scalability from very low frequencies to 180 MHz. This allows a user to optimize an applications power consumption by completing complex tasks faster; 21 communication interfaces and advanced integration, including Ethernet/cloud connectivity, full-speed and high-speed USB with integrated physical transceiver, SDIO and smart card interface: Dual CAN FD controllers increasing bandwidth with higher data rates and larger payloads; Integrated 1024x768 graphics display controller with industry-wide support; External memory bus; Quad SPI Flash interface with replacement policy buffers that allows execution in place; and peripherals optimized for audio applications, supporting PDM-to-PCM conversion for voice recognition and fractional PLL for USB audio bridging. The LPC546xx MCU family is scheduled for mass production with full market availability in March 2017. This marks the first of five new LPC microcontroller families NXP plans introduce this year. The additional LPC54000 and LPC800 microcontrollers are expected to release in second quarter, third quarter and fourth quarter of 2017.
