NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network and identity management solutions, today announced the NEC Express5800/320Fc Fault Tolerant (FT) server -- the first in the industry to deliver lockstep support for the low voltage Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 5300 series, while delivering more than a 200% performance gain over current Dual-Core models.

Additional enhanced features of the NEC Express5800/320Fc FT server include support for the fastest front side bus that provides up to 66% greater CPU Input/Output (I/O); a 50% increase in memory capacity for applications and virtualization management (VM); PCI-Express expansion for 25% faster I/O and compatibility; enhanced internal disk support; and certified support for NEC's next-generation external storage subsystems.

?With today's requirement for 7x24 availability, it is imperative that organizations of all sizes reduce the recovery time associated with system failure as well as improve the integrity of their operating environment,? said David Reine, analyst, The Clipper Group. ?NEC's Express5800/320Fc FT demonstrates industry leadership by delivering lockstep support for Intel's initial implementation of Quad-Core processor technology.?

The NEC Express5800/320Fc, the company's fourth-generation fault tolerant system, delivers the highest availability for mission critical applications, and effectively supports the emergence of server consolidation and virtualization workloads. Combined with NEC's storage technologies, availability software for applications, and disaster recovery capabilities, the 320Fc expands NEC's fault tolerant offering, providing the broadest solution set in the industry from a single vendor. The NEC Express5800/320Fc demonstrates NEC's commitment to advancing the Intel processor family by being first to implement lockstep support for the Quad?Core Intel Xeon family of processors.

?All of NEC's FT series of servers have been designed from the ground up to specifically address the growing need for instantaneous recovery of server virtualization and mission critical applications for businesses of all sizes,? said Matthew Wolken, vice president and general manager of Fault Tolerant Servers & Enterprise Storage, NEC Corporation of America. ?When coupled with NEC's storage, software and services, the 320Fc delivers unparalleled performance, while delivering the lowest total cost of ownership from a top enterprise platform provider.?

The award-winning NEC Express5800 series of servers is renowned for its enterprise-class system integrity, and comes equipped with fully redundant components to deliver up to 99.999% continuous uptime. The NEC Express5800/320Fc is the first product developed jointly by NEC Corporation and Stratus Technologies, Inc. as a result of their collaboration agreement signed November 2005.

?Intel and NEC are two companies with a long history of collaborative innovation. Once again, Intel and NEC are coming together to further enhance server availability on top of the record performance of the Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor,? said Kirk Skaugen, vice president of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group and general manager of the Server Platforms Group. ?The result of this new joint innovation is exciting new levels of performance and server reliability targeted to industries where failures aren't an option.?
