magicJack VocalTec, Ltd (Nasdaq:CALL), a leading cloud-based communications company, today announced it has appointed Seth Cummings as executive vice president, marketing. In this newly created position, Seth will report to chief operating officer (COO) Timothy McDonald.

Cummings will oversee all phases of the marketing platform development including media creative and planning, brand development across online and retail distribution, and managing the customer experience across magicJack's device and mobile app product portfolio. Additionally, he will manage retail expansion into prepaid indirect channels.

"Seth has a proven track record of innovation and rapid execution in the mobile communications and prepaid wireless categories," said McDonald. "Over the past three quarters, he's worked with management to lead the refresh of magicJack's brand with an updated website, our new "Do The Math" advertising campaign and a targeted media plan. He's already well underway with retail, packaging, and industrial design refreshes and is helping to drive new distribution and channel development. He embodies the phrase 'hit the ground running.'"

"magicJack's early success resulted from reaching a single demographic using the same direct response playbook," said Cummings. "To evolve the company, we've identified several untapped, high interest user segments and new distribution channels for both our device and app offerings, and we'll be developing targeted awareness plans and tailoring the product user experience to a significantly expanded audience. In 2014, there's tremendous upside to be realized at magicJack by customers and shareholders."

Cummings brings nearly 20 years of management experience in the communications industry -- ranging from start-ups to public companies -- to his role as executive vice president. Cummings served as executive vice president at Clearwire where he developed the CLEAR brand for the first 4G service deployment in the U.S. He also developed the business model and launched a trial of the first 4G prepaid service in the U.S., which subsequently supplanted the postpaid model at Clearwire. Prior to Clearwire, he was a co-founder of and senior vice president at Amp'd Mobile, where he developed partnerships with entertainment companies including Viacom/MTV Networks, NBC Universal, FOX, Disney/ABC, CBS, and Electronic Arts.

Cummings previously held management positions at Boost Mobile during its start-up phase and initial national launch. He also developed partnerships with Verizon Wireless and Qualcomm at an early mobile app developer before its spin off and eventual sale to Google.

Most recently, Cummings, along with several Sprint and Clearwire alumni, was a partner at Scatteree Partners where he developed and operated new mobile data services in partnership with mobile network enabler Simplexity and wireless network operator Sprint.
