A particular intersection near the German-Polish border crossing Sacro in the Spree-Neiße district had worried the local transport authority for years due to numerous accidents.

With novel cold plastic rumble strips the specialists at Limburger Lackfabrik GmbH helped to provide relief at this accident blackspot. Since the application of 1cm thick, shiny yellow marking strips installed perpendicular to the road which the drivers perceive haptically through vibrations and noise, not a single accident has occurred. In 2010 there were 8 accidents, mostly caused by speeding, some of them involving casualties. "We developed the rumble strips further in cooperation with RWTH Aachen," reports Heidi Ehlert, laboratory manager at Limburger Lackfabrik in Diez. "Meanwhile Germany's Federal Road Research Institute BASt also recommends this effective measure to increase the driver's level of attention."
