Tuscumbia hospice nurse named to AHPCO 2017 executive board

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. - Michelle Crowell, administrator at Keller Hospice in Tuscumbia, has been named to the Alabama Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's 2017 executive board. Crowell was elected to the position of board secretary at the organization's annual meeting in Birmingham on Dec. 9. She was also selected to head the education committee.

In her new role with the AHPCO, Crowell will help promote membership and work to educate the public about hospice services throughout the state of Alabama.

Crowell has worked in hospice for 15 years. She has served patients and families at Keller Hospice for the past three years.

'My goal in this position is to help promote excellent end-of-life care for everyone,' Crowell said. 'I feel this is an opportunity for me to reach more people and educate them on what hospice services offer. I have a true passion for hospice - it is not just a job or career for me.'

According to the AHPCO, the organization consists of hospice and palliative care providers and programs from around the state. It 'provides up-to-date and accurate information regarding end-of-life care… works to improve public policy regarding end-of-life care by providing information to elected officials and decision makers… and to promote a better understanding of hospice and palliative care within our communities.'

Hospice professionals provide the emotional, spiritual and medical support needed when patients are facing the final stages of life. Hospice services help patients live comfortably, with dignity, when a cure is no longer possible. Hospice care programs can be provided in any place a patient calls home, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
