We have learned a merchant or card processor's system was breached. At this point, we do not know whose system was hacked. It was not Jacksonville Savings Bank's. During the time the breach occurred, the hackers were able to obtain the debit card numbers and expiration dates of cards used at the merchant or processed by processor. They have used that information to create fraudulent debit cards which they are using in various states generally to purchase gift cards. The hackers do not have any account numbers, only the card numbers.

Because of the scale of the breach and the number of reports of fraudulent transactions, we made the decision to close all of the cards that were compromised and order new cards for those customers. We will complete that process tomorrow morning.

We have visited with many of the affected customers already and will continue that work through this week.

Should your debit card not work, please contact customer service at your nearest branch. If you find fraudulent transactions on your account, please let us know. Customers are protected under Reg E. You have 60 days past the date of the statement on which the fraudulent transaction appears to notify us. Obviously, the sooner we know the better.

Thank you to all of our customers. Everyone has demonstrated tremendous understanding for a situation we all dislike.
