(Alliance News) - Intesa Sanpaolo Spa announced Monday that it has participated in the financing of SunZia, the largest green energy infrastructure in the US.

SunZia envisions the construction of the largest wind power plant in the Western Hemisphere, in New Mexico, with a capacity of 3.5 GW; and an 885-km power pipeline between New Mexico and Arizona, capable of transporting 3 GW of clean, safe and affordable electricity to millions of Americans in the Western US.

More specifically, Intesa Sanpaolo's IMI - Corporate & Investment Banking division structured and partially underwrote a green credit facility of up to USD8.8 billion.

"We have gained significant international experience in project financing and the significant participation in the green loan facility, which the Bank structured for SunZia with other leading financial institutions, confirms our commitment to support the renewable energy sector in the U.S. and globally," said Mauro Micillo, Chief Division IMI Corporate & Investment Banking of Intesa Sanpaolo.

The SunZia project was developed by Pattern Energy, one of the World's largest developers and private operators of wind, solar, transmission and energy storage projects.

Intesa Sanpaolo's stock closed Monday up 0.5 percent at EUR2.77 per share.
