​Tanja Mackenzie, Senior Environmental Scientist, attended a meeting of the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC) Technical Working Group 178 in London, United Kingdom from 7-8 December 2016.

She shared her expertise with international professionals during meetings in the PIANC Technical Work Group 178, 'Climate Change Adaptation Guidelines for Ports and Navigation Infrastructure', specifically aimed at adaptation planning for inland and maritime ports and navigation infrastructure.

Tanja is a member of this Technical Working Group established by PIANC to develop climate change adaptation guidelines for their members worldwide. She also travelled to the Port of Rotterdam in The Netherlands, the largest port in Europe, to further investigate a case study that would support the guidelines.
The PIANC Technical Work Group 178 aims to develop an approach to climate change adaptation planning, assess risks to ports and navigation infrastructure, provide guidance on different adaptation options, address challenges and provide a guidance framework for decision making. The Technical Work Group includes a number of international experts on technical, economic and environmental issues pertaining to waterborne transport infrastructure; providing an opportunity to connect and learn from each other in order to provide sustainable solutions to ports around the world.

Tanja Mackenzie has over 10 years' experience in natural resource management, environmental impact assessment, environmental permitting and management, environmental monitoring and community engagement, working on projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and China. She works with a range of public as well as private sector clients to consider responses to climate change, understand the challenges around tracking impact from climate change and the implications for asset management and strategic planning.
