Bijou Brigitte: Solid performance in a tough market environment / Group revenue of EUR 360 million
Hamburg, Germany, 14 January 2013 - According to preliminary figures, the fashion jewellery company Bijou Brigitte generated revenue of EUR 360 million in the 2012 financial year, thereby putting in a solid performance in a tense market environment, particularly in southern Europe. This equates to a year-on-year downturn of 3.7% from last year's EUR 374 million. The drop is in line with the company's expectations.
While the Bijou Brigitte Group's German market segment, its biggest segment, developed positively and achieved an increase in revenue, the ongoing economic difficulties in southern Europe triggered further declines in proceeds in its Spanish and Portuguese segments. Revenue was also in decline in Italy as the government's reform policies stifled private consumerism.
Bijou Brigitte continued to optimise its network of stores in the last financial year, opening 42 stores and closing 51. Its international network therefore comprised 1,166 stores as at 31.12.2012 (previous year: 1,175). Approximately 70 locations were renovated and fitted with the new shopfitting design.
The Group result and the dividend proposal are due to be published in the second half of March.
