Barco N : New Nexxis update to raise the bar in digital OR security

Kortrijk, Belgium, 6 January 2021 - Global technology leader Barco releases Nexxis software update 1.18, reinforcing its users with the strictest digital security of the video-over-IP system for the digital operating room.

Nexxis is Barco's established video-over-IP solution, a flexible system that enables sharing uncompressed, high-resolution video (and audio) in and between operating rooms, or even remotely, with near to no transmission delay. The system is network-based and therefore, digital security has always been one of its major attention pillars. Today, version 1.18 is released that raises the bar in cybersecurity significantly.

Nexxis as a medical device

Nexxis is registered as a medical device by the CE and FDA, which means that just like any other medical equipment, it needs to comply with medical regulations, independently of the IP network on which it runs.

Davide Nocentini, VP of Surgical Imaging at Barco, elaborates: 'Nexxis 1.18 is a firm answer to the European Medical Device Regulation, that will come into force in May 2021. But on top of this, it is also an opportunity that we have taken to further reinforce and update the cybersecurity profile of the overall Nexxis solution. What does the Nexxis update entail?

Nexxis 1.18 includes:

• Immediate full compliance with the MDR regulation (in force as of May 2021)
• An update of Barco's Nexxis network switches portfolio
• The most recent set of functionalities that Nexxis has to offer

Another advantage of Nexxis 1.18 is that it incorporates the benefits of previous releases, along with putting the new regulations in place. For instance, it also supports features that were only recently released, such as flexible transmission of 3D and 4K imaging. In other words, Barco is again raising the bar in boosting the digital operating rooms' security, as well as ensuring the highest degree of flexibility and adaptability - all in one go.
