?he monthly net flow of total credit was positive by EUR2,776 million in December 2023, compared with a positive net flow of EUR1,364 million in the previous month.
?.1 Credit to the general government
In December 2023, the monthly net flow of credit to the general government was negative by EUR1,118 million, compared with a positive net flow of EUR572 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 0.7% compared with 3.1% in the previous month.
?.2 Credit to the private sector
In December 2023, the annual growth rate of credit to the private sector increased to 3.6% from 2.8% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was positive by EUR3,894 million, compared with a positive net flow of EUR792 million in the previous month.
?.2.1 Credit to corporations
In December 2023, the monthly net flow of credit to corporations was positive by EUR3,799 million, compared with a negative net flow of EUR777 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 6.9% from 6.0% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) increased to 5.9% from 5.1% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by EUR2,881 million, compared with a positive net flow of EUR85 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased to 15.7% from 13.8% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by EUR919 million, compared with a positive net flow of EUR692 million in the previous month.
?.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships
In December 2023, the monthly net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive by EUR94 million, compared with a positive net flow of EUR8 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -1.3% compared with -2.8% in the previous month.
?.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions
In December 2023, the monthly net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was positive by EUR1 million, compared with a positive net flow of EUR7 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -2.0% compared with -2.3% in the previous month.
??. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions
In December 2023, the monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by EUR5,315 million, compared with a negative net flow of EUR927 million in November 2023.
??.1 Deposits placed by the general government
In December 2023, deposits placed by the general government decreased by EUR1,060 million, compared with a decrease of EUR27 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -14.6% compared with -8.3% in the previous month.
??.2 Deposits placed by the private sector
In December 2023, deposits placed by the private sector increased by EUR6,376 million, compared with a decrease of EUR900 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 3.1% compared with 2.4% in the previous month.
??.2.1 Corporate deposits
In December 2023, corporate deposits increased by EUR3,292 million, compared with a decrease of EUR747 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 1.6% from -1.6% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs increased by EUR2,650 million, against a decrease of EUR625 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by EUR642 million, compared with a decrease of EUR122 million in the previous month.
??.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions
In December 2023, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions increased by EUR3,084 million, compared with a decrease of EUR153 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 3.5% compared with 3.7% in the previous month.
