American Medical Systems® (AMS) (NASDAQ: AMMD), a leading provider of world-class devices and therapies for male and female pelvic health, is the recipient of the 2010 Tekne Award in the Established Company Life Sciences Award category. The Tekne Life Sciences Award recognizes companies leading innovation in medical devices, diagnostics or equipment, agriculture, food science and pharmaceuticals. The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA), in partnership with LifeScience Alley, Enterprise Minnesota and the BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota, present the Tekne Awards across a range of fields, from manufacturing to life sciences to education.

?This year's recipients, once again, raised the bar with quality and originality of their entries and should all be very proud of their accomplishments,? said MaryFrances Schurb, interim president of MHTA.

AMS was recognized as a technological leader in the markets it serves and for its newest generation of the GreenLightTM laser console systems, the GreenLight XPSTM (Xcelerated Performance System), which is used for laser treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate. Symptoms of BPH include increased urination frequency, sudden urges to urinate, and weak urine flow. The GreenLight XPS, combined with the GreenLight MoXyTM fiber, offers enhanced treatment efficiency with extended fiber longevity and improved coagulation capabilities over other laser therapy treatment systems. Patients typically go home within a few hours of treatment and within just 24 hours experience a rapid relief of symptoms and a dramatic improvement in urine flow.

?AMS is honored to be a recipient of an award that reinforces our commitment to technology and innovation,? said Tony Bihl, president and chief executive officer of AMS. ?The GreenLight XPS is yet another of our innovative solutions designed to provide physicians and patients with better clinical outcomes through less invasive and more efficiently delivered therapies.?

AMS is committed to developing new products and improving current products. In addition to the GreenLight XPS and MoXy fiber, in 2010 AMS launched the Elevate® Anterior and Apical Prolapse Repair System, MiniArc® Precise for women's continence, and outside the United States, AdVance® XP for men's continence.
