(Alliance News) - Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi Di Bologna Spa reported Wednesday that, for the first time in the airport's history, transit passengers exceeded 1 million in May, reaching 1.04 million, up about 13 percent over the same month in 2023.

In detail, passengers on domestic flights recorded the biggest increases, but passengers on international flights also performed well. Movements, at 7,491, and air cargo, at 4,240 tons, also grew.

The "most flown" destinations by Marconi passengers were: Catania, Barcelona, Tirana, Palermo, Madrid, Brindisi, Paris CDG, Cagliari, Istanbul and Bucharest.

The busiest day was Monday, May 20, with 37,708 passengers between arrivals and departures.

In the first five months of 2024, total passengers were just under 4.0 million, up 10 percent over the same period in 2023, while movements totaled 29,404, up 7.6 percent over 2023.

Air cargo transported in the January-May period was 18,743 tons, up 7.7 percent over 2023.

Bologna Marconi Airport closed Wednesday up 1.0 percent to EUR8.02 per share.
