Greece is an extremely popular summer destination among Slovene holidaymakers and tourists from neighbouring countries, which use Ljubljana Airport as their starting point. With charter flights to Corfu and Rhodes Aegean Airlines will importantly strengthen connectivity with Greek islands.

Managing director of Aerodrom Ljubljana, Mr. Zmago Skobir, commented on the new route: 'We are very excited to welcome the route between Ljubljana and the heart of Greece. I am certain it will be a success, offering our passengers to discover the lively ancient but modern capital or to plan their journey with Aegean Airline's connections from Athens onward.'

Athens is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning around 3,400 years. Classical Athens was a center for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum; it is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. Today, a cosmopolitan metropolis, modern Athens is central to economic, financial, industrial, political and cultural life in Greece.
