Abengoa completes a 400 km water supply project in Turkey

January 10, 2017

  • Following commissioning, the plant is handed over officially to the municipal water authority of the city of Denizli.
  • This intelligent water management network will supply a town with 600,000 inhabitants.

January 10, 2017 - Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has received the 'Provisional Acceptance Certificate' for an intelligent network of water pipelines covering 400 km, located in Denizli in the southeast of Turkey. This infrastructure will supply water and sanitation to the city's population of 600,000 people. The project is worth €35 million.

Abengoa, in particular, has been responsible for the engineering, design and the construction, under a (turnkey) EPC format, for a supply, sanitation and storm water run-off network, as well as more than 68 wells and a Scada control system that will optimize consumption and prevent energy and water loss. In addition, the existing deposits, pumping stations, wells and low-voltage system have all been renovated. The operating and maintaining of the infrastructure will be carried out for a period of one year. The company will not retain an interest in the constructed assets.

This new network will optimize water supply to households in the city of Denizli, as well as collecting waste water, thanks to the construction of new pipelines and the modernization of existing equipment. This less porous solution, which will prevent potential leaks, will also improve water quality.

The initiative forms part of the Municipal Services Plan that is being implemented by the local government. The main objective is to provide the city of Denizli and its metropolitan area with optimum services and the necessary infrastructures.

Obtaining this certificate further consolidates Abengoa's position in the water sector, providing a sustainable solution to places where water resources are scarce. Currently, Abengoa has constructed more than 600 km of large-bore pipelines in countries such as Mexico, Chile, Peru, Spain and Angola, among others.
