BEIJING, Jan. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- XuetangX launched a new training and examination MOOC program, which could help middle school student to get credits for universities.

Students can select courses on the XuetangX platform as well as in the official website of MOOCAP (www.moocap.org.cn). The courses are free but if students require course certification or a credit accreditation, then, they will need to pay and register for an offline test, the test fee is not so high and the Council is providing grants to low-income students.

Nothing is more important for a Chinese family than the education of their children, especially when they need to select a University major. It is without a doubt one of the most stressful times for Chinese families.

China, like in other countries has the so-called AP courses where high school students can be enrolled in some of the universities courses and pass exams that provide them with university credits.

The MOOCAP Board was established at Tsinghua University on November 2015, jointly by relevant departments under the China Ministry of Education, 19 universities and colleges and nearly 30 secondary schools. MOOCAP is short for Massive Open Online Courses Advanced Placement. It aims to carry out educational work based on the XuetangX platform. The MOOCAP Board was renamed the "CAP" Board in November 2016.

In November 2017, the subscription of CAP courses exceeded 300,000 students and the credits for CAP courses are accepted by many universities and colleges, including Tsinghua University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Renmin University of China and Central China Normal University. Credit certification will be gradually carried out in more Universities.

The MOOCAP offers university-level online courses in specific subjects that students take while they are still in high school. Each AP course culminates in an AP exam, which tests the skills and knowledge that students learned in the course.

So far, the MOOCAP Council has had more than 300 high school members. More than 800 teachers have attended offline training. In these training, the teachers learn about the AP online courses, the key points of curriculum management, and some information about blended learning. After the training, they go back to their schools and introduce MOOCAP to their students.

Students can enroll in ten courses covering subjects such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and many other subjects. The accreditation test takes place twice in a year in provincial capitals, where transportation is convenient. In the summer of 2018, XuetangX is planning to set up 20 testing centers and in the near future, they are planning to relocate exams where the students live.

MOOC courses offer the convenience of studying online. They last about four weeks, in which the student has to dedicate a minimum of four to six hours per week, and they are totally free in case the student does not want to apply for the exam, and the exam is completely optional. They are gaining good acceptance among the Chinese middle school students. Using the Calculus class as an example, at the moment there are 80,000 registered users.

The MOOCAP program started with Chinese universities but it is not ruled out that in the near future, courses from foreigner's universities will be offered. This is due to the fact that every year many Chinese students study at universities around the world.
