WASHINGTON, January 17, 2014- World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim today expressed his condolences on the tragic bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, that claimed the lives of numerous people, including Mr. Wabel Abdallah, the International Monetary Fund's Resident Representative in Afghanistan:

"On behalf of all World Bank Group staff, we want to express our deepest condolences to the family of Wabel Abdallah, and to our colleagues and friends at the International Monetary Fund.

We are all shocked and terribly saddened by news that Wabel's life was cut short, alongside several others, by an act of terror while he was working to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan.

This outrageous violence reminds us of the extreme danger that comes with working in fragile and conflict-affected states, as so many of our colleagues at the Bank and Fund do willingly and bravely every day.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Wabel, as well as the other victims of this attack, as they deal with this tragedy."
