STORY: Golden retrievers Bree and Bond tied the knot in front of their closest human and canine friends.

Bree's owner Rye Ling escorted his female pet down the aisle, where she vowed to always share treats and play with her husband Bond.

"People have weddings, why can't dogs have weddings, right? So we arranged for Bree and Bond to have a wedding together, two people, two dogs, to give them a sense of ritual."

Pet weddings are on the rise in China.

The popularity of pets and an increasing willingness to splurge on them are driving the trend.

There were more than 116 million cats and dogs in urban China as of 2023. That's according to figures by research firm Acuity Knowledge Partners.

Industry figures also show spending on pets rose to more than $38 billion in 2023.

Yang Tao owns a pet bakery in Shanghai.

She says wedding cakes for dogs have become more common over the past few years.

"At first I was pretty surprised, but then I think having such friendship with dogs is a very precious and valuable thing. In fact, we have received many orders, some are for birthdays and weddings, and most are for holidays. When parents take their dogs out to play, they will order a cake."
