As Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported that international visits to the Kingdom had grown 9.78% during the first 11 months of 2016 compared to 2015, a World Bank economist said infrastructure was under pressure.
'Bottlenecks are building up in destinations like Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Phuket, while infrastructure still hasn't expanded,' Kiatipong Ariyapruchya said, adding that new Thai destinations 'must be introduced and monitored closely to support sustainable tourism'.
Tourism growth is putting airports and other aspects of infrastructure under strain, which is a problem not just for tourism but for growth in general.
