SEATTLE, Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With temperatures taking a nosedive on the East Coast and the possibility of snow during Sunday's showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, Take Winter By Storm (TWBS) urges thousands of traveling fans to be prepared--not only with their 12(th) Man spirit, but also with the TWBS Gameday Survival Guide for winter weather conditions.

"It doesn't take long for ever-changing winter weather to wreak havoc on gameday plans, no matter what city you're in," says Karen Rich, program manager for Take Winter By Storm--a regional campaign to help people get prepared before bad weather strikes. "When the thrill of the game is in the air, it can be easy to overlook key preparedness steps and create a risk to personal safety. The TWBS Gameday Survival Guide is a quick, tip-based resource designed to make weather preparedness easy for game goers traveling by foot, bus or car."

Created with all winter sports in mind, the TWBS Gameday Survival Guide reminds Western Washington fans to double check the weather and traffic reports before traveling on game day. Weather conditions can change abruptly and road closures or bus route changes can leave you stranded. Most winter weather items can be worn or carried into a stadium. Double check game location carry-in rules to avoid items getting confiscated at the door/gate.

If traveling by car, make sure it is serviced and that tires are properly inflated and have adequate tread. It's also important to stock the vehicle with an emergency preparedness kit, including a radio, flashlight, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, emergency contact information, water, and non-perishable food.

If traveling by public transportation, make sure to plan your route and have at least one back-up plan in case weather conditions worsen and cause route changes. If roads become icy, bus riders should wait at bus stops at the top or bottom of hills, as it is harder for buses to stop on inclines.

The complete Gameday Survival Guide is available as a free download on the home page of TakeWinterByStorm.org.

According to weather experts, those staying in the Puget Sound region this weekend are expected to continue enjoying mild winter weather conditions and below average precipitation. While this might make game day plans easier to navigate in the short term, it's important to remember to not become complacent about preparedness. TakeWinterByStorm.org provides a variety of tips for every weather scenario to ensure people and property are protected no matter what Mother Nature throws our way.
