"This country is built by immigrants, this is not the way you should treat people who come to Australia," Peter Nikolic told Reuters outside the Federal Circuit and Family Court, speaking of Djokovic's hotel detention
"This has nothing to do with health, nothing to do with sport. This (has) all to do with control," supporter Sinisa Jokanovic told Reuters. "He is a national hero and this is what happens when you touch the Serbian national hero. And now, thank you Australian government, for creating the world's freedom hero Novak Djokovic."
Djokovic, 34, has been held in an immigration detention hotel alongside long-term asylum seeker detainees since Thursday. He was at his lawyers' chambers on Monday to hear the ruling, which included the government being ordered to pay his costs.
