Sterling Struggles to Recover Amid Gas Crisis, Structural Issues
0704 GMT - Sterling struggles to recover meaningfully even as markets raise their interest-rate rise expectations for the Bank of England, Commerzbank says. "One reason for that is likely to be that the gas crisis is also affecting the U.K.," Commerzbank currency analyst Esther Reichelt says in a note. "Moreover, sterling is affected by structural issues." The effects of Brexit haven't been overcome and the U.K. Conservative Party leadership contest and the resulting uncertainties about fiscal policy entails further risks, Reichelt says. GBP/USD rises 0.1% to 1.1719 and EUR/GBP falls 0.1% to 0.8531. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
