Summary

In 2020, the average rate of change of the Portuguese Consumer Price Index (CPI) was nil (0.3% in 2019). Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the average rate of change was also nil in 2020 (0.5% in the previous year).
The CPI annual rate was -0.2% in December (the same value as in November). The annual core inflation rate, which excludes energy and unprocessed food products components, was -0.1% (-0.2% in the previous month). The CPI monthly rate was -0.1% (-0.3% in November and -0.1% in December 2019).
In 2020, the annual average rate of change of the Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was -0.1% (0.3% in 2019). In December 2020, the HICP annual rate of change was -0.3% (-0.4% in the previous month) and is the same as the figure estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area.

Despite the circumstances determined by the pandemic COVID-19, Statistics Portugal calls for the best collaboration by companies, families and public entities in responding to Statistics Portugal's data requests. The quality of official statistics, particularly its ability to identify the impacts of the pandemic COVID-19, crucially depends on this collaboration, which Statistics Portugal thanks in advance.
