State of Pennsylvania : BLOG: Pennsylvania Continues To See Record Jobs Numbers

Governor Tom Wolf has made 'Jobs That Pay' a priority in Pennsylvania since his first day in office.

Last October, we announced a then-record high for the total number of jobs in Pennsylvania, and in November, Pennsylvania surpassed our pre-recession high in the labor force employment count. This put our state in an expansion period.

Today, we are proud to announce new record jobs numbers that show measurable evidence of the Wolf Administration's commitment to the 'Jobs That Pay' initiative.

This morning, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry released its employment situation report for December 2015.

The report that we released today continues this trend of good news for Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate was down two-tenths of a percentage point in December to 4.8 percent. This is our state's lowest unemployment rate since February 2008 and is tied with November 2007.

Significantly, Pennsylvania's unemployment rate also fell below that of the national average, which was unchanged from November at 5.0 percent.

In addition, our jobs reached a record high in December - total non-farm jobs were up to a record of 5,863,500.

I am thrilled to see that Pennsylvania is continuing to reach exciting job creation milestones.

Governor Wolf has worked with his cabinet to create policies and initiatives that create and maintain jobs that pay in Pennsylvania.

With these encouraging statistics leading us into the new year, I'm excited to see where how our state will grow next.
