SEOUL, Jan 2 (Reuters) - South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol promised to keep easing restrictions on home buyers to achieve a soft landing of the property market, according to an interview with a major local newspaper published on Monday.

"There is a need to provide (the falling property market) with parachutes by unwinding restrictions on demand to achieve a soft landing," he said in an interview with The Chosun Ilbo, saying there is growing concern about a hard landing.

Yoon's government, launched in May 2022, has recently taken steps to ease restrictions - such as mortgage curbs - on home buyers introduced by his predecessor to cool the property market.

Prices of apartments across South Korea fell for six consecutive months until November, the longest such stretch since late 2019, while home transactions dipped about 50% on annual terms in recent months, official data shows. (Reporting by Choonsik Yoo. Editing by Gerry Doyle)
