Securian Financial Group is kicking its sponsorship of winter fun up a notch this year with a flurry of events.

This Thursday, January 25, the St. Paul Super Slide presented by Securian officially opens at CHS Field, home of the St. Paul Saints. The Super Slide is a snow slide that begins from the second story patio of the Securian Club. Riders will plunge 40 feet down in an innertube over the seating bowl and then slide 130 feet onto the snow-covered infield.

The Super Slide is open January 25 to February 10 on Tuesday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets are good for unlimited rides during the one-hour time slot purchased. They can be purchased online at stpaulsuperslide.com, in person at the Saints’ box office or by calling 651-644-6659. The Super Slide is open to 100 riders an hour, and patrons will select the specific day and hour upon purchasing tickets.

This Saturday, January 27, more than 1,500 runners will participate in the 33nd annual Securian Winter Run in St. Paul. The event will kick off at 9:00 a.m. at the corner of 6th and Jackson streets with the start of the half marathon. A 10k will follow at 9:15 a.m., and a 5k will start at 9:25 a.m.

Online registration ($55 for half marathon, $50 for 10k, $45 for 5k) will remain open until 8:45 a.m. on race day. Runners will also be able to register in person on Saturday at the plaza of the Securian Center 401 Building (corner of 6th and Robert streets) from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. All registered runners will receive a complimentary long-sleeve 1/4 zip performance fleece pullover, a collector mug, a virtual goodie bag, and a Saint Paul Winter Carnival coupon book and commemorative button.

New this year is the Kids’ Skyway Scamper, an indoor, kids-only course winding through downtown St. Paul’s skyways. From teetering to taking strides, kids ages 10 and under will take a trot on routes suited for their age group. Frostbite—the Securian Winter Run’s friendly bear mascot—will join racers and spectators inside and be ready for photo opps and high-fives. Volunteers will be at each twist and turn to cheer, and to keep kids safe and on-course.

Online registration for $10 is available through Friday, January 26. Registration on Saturday—race day—is $12. Kids' Skyway Scamper participants will receive a backpack with kid-approved goodies. The race begins at 10:45 a.m. in Securian Center (401 Robert Street North, skyway level) but participants are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy family-friendly activities.

More than 150 volunteers, including 100 Securian associates, operate the Securian Winter Run. All proceeds are donated to the Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation, the producer of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. The Securian Winter Run is one of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival’s largest fundraisers.

Proceeds from the Kids’ Skyway Scamper benefit the children and families serviced by St. Paul’s Conway Community Center, supported by the Sanneh Foundation. Learn more at securianwinterrun.com.
