CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Jan 15, 2015) - The Barley Council of Canada (BCC) is pleased to welcome SeCan as its newest member.

Founded in 2012 and officially incorporated in 2013, the BCC provides a focused, national approach in order to grow Canada's barley industry through cooperation, collaboration and innovation.

"Solidifying SeCan's membership completes our value chain representation and opens the door for the life sciences sector to have more say on national barley initiatives," said BCC Chair Brian Otto. "I look forward to working with SeCan to strengthen the Canadian barley industry."

SeCan is the largest selling brand of certified seed in Canada and distributes the dominant varieties of malt barley, feed barley, flax and forage seed across Canada. Through BCC membership, SeCan will continue to reflect their mandate as "Canada's Seed Partner" and invest in the profitability of the barley industry.

"We are happy to be sitting at the national barley table," said SeCan Business Manager of Western Canada Todd Hyra. "Barley is an important crop for SeCan. Membership in the BCC allows us to help create a positive future for barley in Canada."

SeCan officially joined BCC this month and will be participating in BCC's second annual general meeting on February 11, 2015 in Calgary, Alberta.
