Families, school leaders, school choice activists, business leaders and legislators will come together during National School Choice Week to demonstrate community support for opportunity in education.

On Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., a program of student performances and short remarks will celebrate School Choice Week in Colorado Springs. Mayor John Suthers will open the event and Dr. Regina Lewis, Professor at Pikes Peak Community College is expected to speak.

The goal of the event is to bring together the broad base of school choice supporters in the Colorado Springs area. More than 600 people are expected to attend. The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 22-28, 2017), which will feature more than 20,000 events across the country.

“Our organization works with the families whose futures are changed by school choice every day,” said Deborah Hendrix of Parents Challenge. “National School Choice Week is an opportunity to share those stories with the general public and celebrate educational opportunity.”

The event is being planned by Parents Challenge.

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through more than 20,000 independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
